چکیده
Abstract Due to the significant growing demand for water, it is urgent those in food industry consider a more rational and sustainable use of such scarce natural resource. This chapter highlights alternative processing methods that contemplate recycling reusing water. Based on systematic literature review, adoption cleaner production methods. The focus meat fresh produce sectors where evidence shows water sustainability related most needed. Suggestions are proposed minimize waste through treatment effluents decrease impact effluent pollution environment. In so doing, clear environmental economic benefits could be achieved reduction costs value-adding final product. Yet, implementation Cleaner Production Methods would require support from industry, policymakers, consumers encourage reuse

Integrated Membrane Processes (EDR-RO) for Water Reuse in the Petrochemical Industry
The objective of this work was to apply a hybrid process, including electrodialysis reversal (EDR) and reverse osmosis (RO) to the treatment of petrochemical wastewater in order to obtain process water for reuse. A water balance was carried out to defne the main water consumers and the process step that could receive the produced water. Additionally, toxicity assays wer...
متن کاملApplication of electrolyzed water in the food industry
Electrolyzed oxidizing (EO) water has been regarded as a new sanitizer in recent years. Production of EO water needs only water and salt (sodium chloride). EO water have the following advantages over other traditional cleaning agents: effective disinfection, easy operation, relatively inexpensive, and environmentally friendly. The main advantage of EO water is its safety. EO water which is also...
متن کاملElectrolyzed water and its application in the food industry.
Electrolyzed water (EW) is gaining popularity as a sanitizer in the food industries of many countries. By electrolysis, a dilute sodium chloride solution dissociates into acidic electrolyzed water (AEW), which has a pH of 2 to 3, an oxidation-reduction potential of >1,100 mV, and an active chlorine content of 10 to 90 ppm, and basic electrolyzed water (BEW), which has a pH of 10 to 13 and an ox...
متن کاملProtozoal contamination of water used in Thai frozen food industry.
This study evaluated the prevalence of contamination of water that was used for food preparation. Since protozoal cysts can be found in small numbers in water, 1,000 liters of either untreated or treated water were filtered through activated carbon block filters (1 microm nominal porosity). Identification of protozoa was performed using specific monoclonal antibodies against Giardia and Cryptos...
متن کاملTowards new membrane-based technologies for water treatment and reuse in the textile industry
Textile wastewater represents challenging feed streams to be treated by membrane separation due to the complex composition and presence of reactive components. Here we fi rst briefl y present some characteristics of textile wastewater remediation where a key issue is (bio)fouling. We then present Membrane Bioreactors (MBRs) and Forward Osmosis (FO) membranes as both technologies have attracted ...
